From conquering most of Europe in the early 19th century, to crowning himself emperor in 1804, Napoleon Bonaparte was a very important figure in history. Not only did he do these things, but many more in his lifetime. For Instance, the making of the “Napoleonic Code”. Although there were these great events, Napoleon also witnessed a very significant downfall which eventually led to his death. Napoleon has definitely had an influence in the French Revolution and on the people during the French Revolution. Napoleon was born on August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio, which was an island In the Mediterranean Sea. He was the second child of eight children in his family. He was born to Letitia Romanlino and Carlo Bonaparte. “Although his parents were members of the minor Corsica’s nobility, the family was not wealthy” (History.com). Napoleon was in the French military and rapidly ranked up to become a military leader during the French Revolution. He was considered one of the world’s best military leaders in history. Napoleon was very skilled strategist during his time in the military. As a result, this is where Napoleon Bonaparte had started his rise to ultimate power.As Bonaparte was going through his life, he had accomplished a lot during his years in the military. First, from the end of the 18th century to the early 19th century, Napoleon had conquered most of Europe. These conquerings included Italy, Egypt, Syria, Austria and The Netherlands. One of the more important conquerings was the conquering of Austria in 1796, which was French’s primary Rivals. This victory against Austria led to both countries signing the Treaty of Campo Formio, which was a treaty resulting in territorial gains for the French. Also, Napoleon founded the French Banking System. Third, Napoleon had created a fair and modern legal code called the “Napoleon Code”. This code allowed freedom of religion, stated government jobs must be given to people who are very knowledgeable, followed Napoleon’s new constitutions, etc. Also, to raise funds for any future wars, Napoleon sold France’s Louisiana Territory that they had claimed in North America to the United States for $15 million. This transactions had later become known as the Louisiana Purchase. Ultimately, all of these a phenomenal actions that Napoleon Bonaparte led to Napoleon crowning himself Emperor in 1804. Lastly, in December 1805, Napoleon achieved one of his greatest victories, which was at the Battle of Austerlitz. His army defeated the Austrians and Russians and “the victory resulted in the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire and the creation of the Confederation of the Rhine” (History.com). As a result, Napoleon Bonaparte accomplished a lot during his lifetime. Although, there were many amazing things that Napoleon had done in his life, there were also some downfalls. First, in the Summer of 1812, Napoleon led a massive army into Russia. Instead of Russia engaging in a full battle, whenever the French army attempted to attack, the Russians retreated. While the French army made it all the way to Moscow, they had just realized that Russian forces had retreated and there were deprived of supplies. After a month of waiting for a surrender which never came, Napoleon and the French army had to face the Russian winter in which resulted in the Russian army later harassing and killing approximately 500,000 troops of the 600,000 who originally came. After the defeat of the Russian invasion, the French faced the Peninsular War from 1808-1814. Napoleon was also defeated in this war and retreated. Also, one June 18, which was at the Battle of Waterloo, the French were severely defeated by the British, with assistance from the Prussians. Due to this devastating defeat, One June 22, 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte was forced to abdicate. Finally in October 1815, Napoleon was exiled in a British-held island of Saint Helena, which was located in the South Atlantic Ocean. On May 5, 1821, at age 51, Napoleon Bonaparte died from stomach cancer, most likely.In conclusion, Napoleon Bonaparte was a very important figure during the French Revolution. Napoleon had accomplished so many things, during his life, it is truly remarkable. Although there was a lot of success, it led to a big downfall in his life and eventually got him killed. In other words, Napoleon was a very significant figure during the French Revolution.
